Every 4ocean bracelet is made from post-consumer recycled plastic and glass. Our colored cords are made from recycled PET plastic bottles. Our beads are made from post-consumer recycled glass bottles. The charm is made from stainless steel. We do include a small amount of ocean plastic and ocean glass in every bracelet, but as of July 2019, this is less than 5% of the total material composition. We know some of you have asked why we don’t use 100% collected ocean materials in our bracelets. We’re still hard at work on a solution, but in our trials thus far, we’ve found that the UV degradation and contamination that ocean plastic experiences from exposure to harsh conditions makes it unable to be the only plastic source for our bracelets. We should also note that the small charms on our bracelets are made from non-recycled stainless steel. We’ve followed the official FTC guidance in saying our bracelets are made from recycled materials, since the charm is considered an incidental component, but in the interest of transparency we wanted you to have the full story. We hope to have a 100% ocean material bracelet soon. If you’re subscribed to our newsletter, you’ll be the first to know when we figure this out!
